Welcome to the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail

The Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) is a beautiful 296 km multi-use rail trail that runs from Smith Falls to Bissett Creek currently. The trail is managed in a collaborative effort among the Counties of Lanark and Renfrew and the Township of Papineau-Cameron. Whether you're walking, biking, ATVing, or snowmobiling, we invite you to explore the stunning and rich heritage this former rail trail offers.

All motorized vehicles REQUIRE permits at all times while on the OVRT.

*Motorized bikes are only permitted on the Renfrew County portion of the OVRT

Please check out the map tab for links to open/closed sections and updated snowmobile / ATV condition maps

Help the County of Renfrew name its new recreational trail.

The County of Renfrew is collaborating with the Townships of Laurentian Valley and Whitewater Region to take ownership of a new section of trail from the Quebec border to Hawthorne Lane. This section of trail is still a rail ballast surface and currently operates as the 'B Trail' and has infrastructure in place to remain open, though not as accessible to cyclists and walkers in its current condition.

The County of Renfrew has developed an online survey requesting suggestions of the name of this new recreational trail once it has been established. The survey can be found at the link below:

https://bit.ly/Namethetrailsurvey

We welcome all suggestions and invite you to share the survey amongst your peers! The survey will remain open until April 30th. After this survey has closed, the County will review all suggestions and narrow the list to 5 proposed names for consideration. An additional survey will be issued to vote on the names proposed and make the final decision.

Thank you in advance for your input and for sharing the survey we look forward to seeing your name suggestions!

Trail Sections

The trail consists of three sections, each overseen by different organizations collaborating to provide excellent upkeep and enhance the user experience. The Lanark County section runs from the Arnprior border to Smiths Falls; the Renfrew County section currently runs from Arnprior to Bisset Creek. And the last section is owned by Papineau-Cameron township.  Please keep in mind that the Papineau Cameron section is currently closed, so plan your visit accordingly.
